April is Autism Awareness Month

This month we recognize autism. It is a waging war continuing to take over the normalcy of human life. As the years progress, the rate of children being born autistic is between 10%-17%. Autism is quickly becoming the fastest developmental disability.  It is proven that autism is actually more prevalent in boys. In the most recent CDC report, it was found that 1 in 50 children would be found autistic. Before that in 2012, it was 1 in 88. So as you can see it is a rapid progression of a disability that is still not found curable. Read the rest of this entry

The VOICE

The Voice.

A place where if nowhere else, its on the keys of your computer on this site that your voice is heard. Like the letters of the words you create, there are no color barriers, there are no judgements passed, there are no distractions, but instead freedom. Your voice is being able to say anything you want because when you wanted to speak, the teacher bypassed your hand, or there wasn’t enough time… but here? Time is endless.

The Voice.

A place where your major doesn’t classify you. A place where your group of friends doesn’t define you. A place where once your fingertips hit the keys it’s an instant relief. Having a voice is crucial to society, on and off campus. For without out one, you can get lost in the crowd like so many of us have often felt. It’s on this site that dedicated writers and contributors from SUNY Oswego come and speak loud through poetry, fashion, media, politics and so much more.

Allow the words of your heart to play in three quarter time as the rhythm of your pen dances across the sheet that spills the thoughts your mouth would hesitate to speak.

Live through your voice.

The writers of this page have made a dedication to being the voice of the SUNY Oswego campus. All of the issues, fads and uncertainties are brought to light here. We are strong members of the Black Student Union and all we wish to see is progression in humility and strength collectively.

The Voice, your voice and ours… it is heard here.

The Single Mother

mj the voice

Can you count everything your mom has ever done for you?

I bet you can’t even remember all of it because that’s just how much she’s actually done. From the day she pushed you out, until the day she passes, the work of a mother is never done, even when their child moves out of the house.  The career of being a mother is hard enough, now imagine a woman doing it all by herself.
