Autism Awareness Month

Do you know someone with Autism? The Autism society has been celebrating Autism Awareness month since the 1970’s. The United States recognizes April as a special opportunity for everyone to educate the public about autism and issues within the Autism Community. Autism is defined as a developmental disorder that appears by age three and that is variable in expression but is recognized and diagnosed by impairment of the ability to communicate with others.

A little girl by the name of Adore, was called the “good baby” being that she rarely cried or threw hissy fits. Little did Adore’s parents know, these were signs leading up to news that would change all of their lives. Going into her toddler years, her parents noticed that she still wasn’t making much noise, and was still very quiet. After being referred to a developmental pediatrician, Adore was finally diagnosed with Autism.

Places like the Center for Autism, has helped little girls like Adore and many other children who have been diagnosed with Autism. This center has recognized these young, beautiful children as normal functioning children. The Center utilizes a program that enables these kids diagnosed with Autism to interact with others and develop better communication skills.

It doesn’t matter if you are not personally affected by Autism, this month we have the opportunity to show appreciation for family and friends who are. This month is dedicated to help educate the public and to help each other in any way we can. With early diagnosis and proper therapy, children with Autism can overcome their difficulties.
